Invocation of the Holy Spirit and Blessing of Backpacks

On Sunday, August 16, our parish gathered in prayer as we prepared our children, students and their teachers for the beginning of a new school year. Following the Divine Liturgy, a special service - Invocation of the Holy Spirit was offered, asking God to grant our children wisdom, understanding, strength, and perseverance in their studies. The children’s backpacks were also blessed, entrusting them and the year ahead to God’s protection and guidance.

In his remarks, Fr. Vladislav emphasized the importance and power of prayer. He reminded the children and faithful that when we respectfully ask something of another person, we often receive a response; how much more, then, should we turn to God, who is our loving Father. We are called to pray continually, even when it may seem that our prayers remain unanswered. God hears every sincere prayer and, in His wisdom and love, gives us what we need and at the time that is best for us, always with the salvation of our souls in mind.

The gathering served as a meaningful reminder that education extends beyond academic knowledge. As we begin a new school year, we pray that our children may grow not only in wisdom and understanding, but also in faith, virtue, and love for God and one another.
