Welcoming the New Church School Year

As the summer days slowly wane and the new school year approaches, we at the Meeting of Our Lord Serbian Orthodox Church warmly invite all students, parents, teachers, and parishioners to come together in prayer and fellowship. This is a special time to ask God’s blessings for wisdom, strength, and guidance throughout the upcoming academic journey.

On Sunday, August 17, immediately following the Divine Liturgy, we will gather for a special prayer service dedicated to the new school year. During this service, we will offer prayers for all our young learners, educators, and families, asking God to bless their efforts, protect them from harm, and inspire their hearts and minds.

We especially invite all children to bring their backpacks and school supplies to be blessed, invoking God’s protection and guidance as they embark on a new season of learning.

After the prayers, everyone is invited to stay for a potluck lunch and fellowship. We kindly ask all attendees to bring a posno/fast dish (no meat, eggs or diary) to share as we come together to enjoy good food and warm community spirit. After lunch, we’ll hold a brief Kick-Off Meeting to discuss plans and expectations for the upcoming Church School year. We’d love to hear your thoughts and share how you can get involved.

Starting a new school year can bring excitement but also uncertainty and challenges. By coming together in prayer, we remind ourselves that we are never alone. God walks with us every step of the way, and our church family is here to support and uplift each other.

Whether you are a student stepping into a new grade, a teacher preparing to inspire young minds, or a parent offering guidance and encouragement, this gathering is for you.

We look forward to seeing you all on August 17 as we ask God’s grace for a fruitful, joyful, and successful school year — and share a meal in fellowship!
